Gender roles evolution

How much have gender roles changed over the past century? So much and hardly at all. Women are still expected to be feminine and stay at home with the children. Yes, they can work, but when a child is born it's the mother that stays home from work, not the father. On the other side of the argument, men think they can only be considered masculine if they have muscles and don't show their emotions. These are the outdated stereotypes forced into the genders in today's society. However, younger generations are much more accepting of those not confirming to common standards than people in the past. We have grown up during a time of learning and change. We have grown up knowing that people are straight, gay, bi, asexual, pansexual, etc. We know that people can identify as male, female, transgender, or none of the above. We have been exposed to such diverse people and situations that we accept out-of-the-ordinary things without batting an eye. Older generations have a harder time coming to terms with people doing things not including in their gender stereotypes, so the stereotypes were more prominent a few decades ago than today. So, while gender roles are still present today, a large portion of the population is more accepting of those who choose not to participate in the stereotypes.
