Liberty
Liberty, oh liberty
How I wish I could be so free
As to have the freedom of expression
And crush the cruel face of oppression.
So here I kneel
Mistreated is how I feel
I do this for you
Now you know I am through
Putting up with this unjust cruelty
So that maybe one day we can truly
All be treated equally.
I scream my silent scream
Trying to reach my dream
But all anyone will see
Is an unwarranted plea
An overreaction
But all I want is a fraction
Of what they get every day.
Maybe later
I will not be seen as a traitor
But someone looking for something greater.
I wrote this from the point of view of a player protesting by kneeling during the National Anthem. I tried to convey their dissatisfaction with the treatment of black people in today's society and how they are working towards equality for everyone. I also included the overall negative responses to the protests, people believing it is rude and disrespectful towards America and it's soldiers. I ended the poem with a line conveying that they are working towards a future where everyone is treated equally.

I enjoyed reading your intriguing poem, as each line does a great job of highlighting different aspects found in both liberty, along with the National Anthem protests. Furthermore, I like how you used a different perspective during the poem, to convey your argument, and then added analysis to deepen the understanding of the poem's purpose. Exceptional work!!
